Mono-material design is the real sustainability lever

The biggest recyclability barrier in industrial packaging usually isn't the base material — it's mixed-material construction that makes separation impractical at end of life. Designing a film, foam or corrugated component as a mono-material structure, rather than laminating incompatible materials together for marginal performance gains, is what actually makes a packaging format recyclable in practice, not just in theory.

Nitrite-free VCI as a sustainability decision, not just a compliance one

Nitrite-free VCI formulations were originally developed to meet REACH and environmental sourcing requirements, but the shift also reflects a broader move toward corrosion protection chemistry with a lower environmental footprint — without giving up validated protection performance. It's a case where a compliance-driven change and a sustainability-driven change point in the same direction.

Right-sizing is underrated as a sustainability strategy

Oversized packaging — extra void fill, excess film wrap, a carton larger than the component needs — is a material waste problem before it's ever a recyclability problem. Packaging engineering that sizes materials precisely to component requirements reduces total material consumption regardless of what that material is made from, and it's often the fastest sustainability win available because it also reduces cost.
